GreenGardens®
ReFuturing implies to reinvest in the future. As the Bible wisely says: "We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves". We are all connected to each other in a huge system. When one part suffers, it affects the whole system - even if we can't see it at once. I'm involved on a volunteer basis in for example Mercy Ships as a board member and monthly donor. I'm also involved in and a monthly donor for Smile of Hope Africa (SOHA) and Just Earth. 10% of GreenGardens' profit is donated to them. You can read more about the three organizations below.
Smile of Hope Africa
Smile of Hope Africa - SOHA - is a sponsored child organization. Their vision is to give vulnerable children and their families in Uganda hope for the future and a smile on their faces through their work. They do this by offering children and young people education, psychosocial efforts, including their creative programs that strengthen the children's self-esteem, and self-sufficiency projects, to give families an opportunity to support themselves through the purchase of animals or start-up support for new business.
Just Earth
Just Earth is an agricultural project where farmers are trained to cultivate the fertile soil. Its journey started in Kenya in 2005 and has resulted in food and livelihood for more than 64,000 children and adults. The concept has proven to be very successful and is based on the involvement of local congregations and Just Earth's training model. In recent years, two new schools have started in Uganda. The picture on the right shows me planting a tree in an area that will become a self-sufficient dairy farm.
Mercy Ships
Mercy Ships is the world's largest civilian hospital ship (actually two ships) that provides free care for people in need and contributes to building hospital capacity. Since over 50% of the world’s population lives near a coast, the ships are the best way to reach people in need with personalized, state-of-the-art medical care. The organization is supported mainly by donations and volunteer work. The majority of volunteers even pay for their own travel and accommodation.
